Proverbs 3:5-6 (AMPC)
“Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.”
Have you ever wished for a check list of what to do and what not to do in life? Have you faced a decision and thought, “if only there were some kind of sign or roadmap that told me which direction to go!” ? I certainly have!
In life, we are inundated with choices. Research shows the average adult makes 35,000 decisions every day. 35,000! In one single day! That’s mind-boggling to me. And while most of those decisions are relatively easy and have few negative consequences, like what we’re going to wear or what we want to eat for breakfast, others can have long-lasting impact on not just ourselves but those near us. How do we navigate it all? How do we see the bigger picture?
This passage of Scripture tells us that if we will learn on and rely on God, He promises to give us direction. And not just give us direction, but give us clear and plain direction. God speaks to us! We don’t always know how to listen to what He has to say, but He is always speaking. God knows us. After all, He created us. So He knows exactly how to speak to you in a way that you can understand.
And God is perfectly positioned to tell us which path to take and which way to go because He sees the bigger picture. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that God “knows the plans” He has for us, and that they are good plans. God’s desire is for us to prosper and live in abundance of life. When we seek His direction, we will be led in the path that ultimately leads to life, and life abundantly! That’s an amazing promise.
Whether it’s a big decision or a little one, practice asking God for direction every day. You’ll be amazed at where it takes you!
Prayer: Father, thank you that you have a plan for my life. Thank you that your plans for me are good, to prosper me and not to harm me. Lord, sometimes I don’t ask for your opinion on the decisions I make. Remind me that you see more than I see. You know more than I know. Thank you that I can come to you with the little things as well as with the big, and you will be just as faithful to give me guidance and direction. Father, I’m leaning on you and trusting that the path you lead me on will lead farther than I ever dreamed! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
